Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins on the Sun Princess

Deck 5 -- Plaza Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Deck 5 cabins on the Sun Princess have the advantage of cabins directly above them, which buffers the noises from public areas above. Consequently, a cabin on Plaza Deck could be quieter than those on decks situated above or below public areas such as bars and lounges which can be noisy late at night.

  • During rough seas, it can get noisy in the most forward cabins on Plaza Deck of the Sun Princess.
  • Forward, Ocean View Staterooms P228 and P225, and Interior Staterooms P230, P232, and P227 are close to an area for crew. Noise could be an issue in any of these cabins.
  • Interior Staterooms P234 and P229 are next to staff storage areas, from which noise could be concerns when staff are busy.
  • Ocean View Staterooms P301 and P303 are across the hall from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat could be problems in these staterooms when the laundry is busy.
  • Interior Staterooms P307 and P229 are near the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat from the laundry when it's busy could be a problem in these cabins. This location could especially affect P307 because this cabin shares a wall with this facility.

Deck 6 -- Emerald Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Most of the cabins on Deck 6 of the Sun Princess are located under the Princess Theater and a popular bar that features music and dancing. Noise could be an issue in any of these staterooms.

  • During rough seas, it can get noisy in the most forward cabins on Emerald Deck of the Sun Princess.
  • Interior Staterooms E311 shares a wall with the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat could be an issue in this cabin when the laundry is busy.
  • Port side, Ocean View Staterooms E305 and E307 are across the hall from the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be problems in these cabins when the laundry is busy.
  • There are few interior staterooms located on Deck 6 of the Sun, and all of these (E311- E349) are situated most directly under the bar area. We suggest that you look for an inside cabin on another, higher deck to avoid noise issues.
  • On Deck 6 of the Sun Princess, exterior cabins E309- E353 are under the bar areas as well. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).
  • Several of the worst cabins on board the Sun Princess are on the Emerald Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks which will be quieter.

Deck 8 -- Dolphin Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

On the Sun Princess, several Dolphin Deck staterooms are right above public areas on Promenade Deck which can be noisy into the wee hours. It is possible, with a bit of strategy, to locate quieter areas on this deck, however. Also, there are several Ocean View Staterooms on Deck 8 that have obstructed views. Given the fact that Princess often has value rates for exterior staterooms with obstructed views, and some these just happen to be in a relatively less noisy area, it is possible for budget minded travelers to locate a nice, cost effective stateroom on Deck 8.

  • Ocean View Staterooms D610- D618 port side and D609- D621 starboard are located in the most quiet area on Dolphin Deck of the Sun Princess. These staterooms do have obstructed views, however.
  • Forward, staterooms over the theater are Ocean View Staterooms D208- D236 port side and D207- D237 starboard, and interior cabins D202- D238 and D201- D239 on the Sun Princess. While noise generated from the theater area may not be much of concern late at night, there could be issues during rehearsals and performances, as well as before and after shows when staff are cleaning.
  • Interior Staterooms D239 and D307 are very near the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be problems in these cabins when the laundry is busy.
  • Starboard, Ocean View Staterooms D301 and D303 are across the hall from the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be problems in these cabins when the laundry is busy.
  • On Deck 8 of the Sun Princess, Ocean View Staterooms D324- D334 port side and D327- D339 starboard, and interior cabins D322- D335 are all generally over the bar. This could mean noises into the wee hours. Again, we do suggest that light sleepers locate a cabin on another deck, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine.
  • Aft on the Dolphin Deck of the Sun Princess, exterior staterooms D702- D750 port side, D701- D753 starboard, and interior cabins D707- D747 are just above the aft main lounge, and this could mean noise issues after hours on the Sun Princess.
  • Cabins D311, D315, D324, D327, D326, and D329 are designated as wheelchair accessible.
  • Aft on Dolphin Deck of the Sun Princess, the Penthouse Suites are D750 and D753. Each has 538 total sq. ft., and will have that wonderful (less breezy) ocean view.
  • Also aft, D748 and D751 are mini-suites located next to the most luxurious suites on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess. Each has up to 536 total sq. ft., and will have that same splendid view of the ocean.
  • Several of the worst cabins on board the Sun Princess are on the Dolphin Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks which will be quieter.

Deck 9 -- Caribe Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Baja Deck on the Sun Princess is also a high rentĀ district. Some of the best cabins on the Sun Princess are located on Baja Deck! Because some of the most luxurious suites are located on this deck, this will also be where the best cabin stewards are assigned. Baja Deck on the Sun Princess also features several mini-suites with balconies as well! The staterooms and suites on Deck 10 have cabins above and beneath them to buffer noise from public venues- so your Baja Deck cabin is more quiet than some others on the Sun Princess.

  • The best located staterooms on Baja Deck of the Sun Princess, in our opinion, are as follows. Port side, we suggest B212- B222, B318- B324, B410- B422, B508- B528, B620, B626, and B712- B750. Starboard, we recommend B217- B227, B307- B327, B409- B421, B507- B529, B621, B627, and B715- B755.

  • Starboard, Mini Suites B403 and B405 are across the hall from the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be problems in these cabins when the laundry is busy.
  • Aft, the most spacious and luxurious of the suites on the Baja Deck of the Sun Princess are B748 and B753. Each has up to 695 sq. ft. including balcony space, and both have that incredible (less breezy) view of the ocean.

Deck 11 -- Aloha Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

With the exception of the cabins in the forward section of Deck 11 of the Sun Princess, most of the accommodations on Aloha Deck are beneath busy public venues that include the pool and fitness center areas..

  • In our estimation, the best located staterooms on Aloha Deck of the Sun Princess are A212- A342 port side and A215- A345 starboard.
  • Inside cabins A307, A308, A314, and A315 are designated as wheelchair accessible on Deck 11 of the Sun Princess.

Deck 12 -- Riviera Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

On the Sun Princess, the staterooms on Deck 12 are all under Horizon Court, which is one of the busiest dining venues on the ship. That basically means that it will likely be noisy in most of the cabins on Riviera Deck.

  • Exterior staterooms R350 and R351 are right next to public bathrooms and could be noisy as a result. We suggest moving a little farther forward on Deck 12 of the Sun Princess to avoid any concerns with this.
  • The Interior Staterooms on Deck 12 are beneath the galley area in Horizon Court. Noise could be a problem in any of these staterooms.
