Island Tours
Explore the east end or west side of this lovely island on tours ranging from 3 to 3.5 hours. Sights include the Carambola Botanical Gardens, Sherman's Iguana refuge, visits through Roatan's hamlets, and the Garifuna Museum. Some tours have Garifuna dancing as a finale, and there will usually be an opportunity to shop for souvenirs.
Price: Adults expect to pay $55- $60 for cruise line excursions.
Booking Advice: Because some walking is involved, and east end tours cover some bumpy terrain, there may be some physical restrictions. Third party vendors are less expensive and likely to offer a more authentic experience for the money.
Sailing Adventures
Experience the unforgettable when you sail these waters. Many of these tours combine with snorkeling, village tours, and other points of interest on the island. Your options include catamarans, kayaks, the Black Pearl Pirate Ship, and the very reasonably priced glass bottom boat! Most of these excursions are considered at a moderate activity level, and last from 3.5 to 5 hours.
Price: Adults expect to pay $58- $90 for cruise line excursions.
Booking Advice: This is a great way to explore the island coast AND snorkel. Third party vendor prices are quite competitive, but typically charge an additional fee to pick you up and drop you off at your cruise port.
Canopy Tours
Zip-line over the majestic tropical forests of Roatan! Some tours include a visit to Gumbalimba Park or Tabyana Beach. These excusions last from 1 to 4.5 hours and are at difficult activity level.
Price: Adults expect to pay $76 - $100
Booking Advice: If zip-lining is not your thing, but you'd still like a canopy view, chairlift rides from Mahogany Bay cost about $9 and last about 6 hours. Third party vendors are competitive with cruise line charges for this activity, and also include snorkeling.
Roatan SCUBA
Off the shores of Roatan lies the second largest barrier reef in the world... which explains why SCUBA divers from all over the world have visited this island for decades! The SCUBA experience in Roatan also offers you that unique opportunity to explore marine life and coral reefs far and away from the crowds! At $100, diving for beginners is the least expensive of these excursions, and diving with dolphins at $200 is the most expensive!
Price: Adults expect to pay $100 - $200 through cruise line excursions.
Booking Advice: SCUBA excursions are considered to be at a moderate activity level, and take from 3.5 to 5 hours. Experienced divers can book 1 tank excursions for $50, and 2 tank dives for $90 through third party vendors, but getting picked up and dropped off is an additional charge. Since SCUBA has been around Roatan for decades, it's a safe bet to book with third party vendors. Please note: if you are considering the dolphin dives, know upfront that dolphins less familiar with our species might just find air bubbles annoying... “Free diving” is an alternative!
Dolphin Encounters
Dolphin encounters are certainly not new to Roatan! Encounters tend to be least expensive, but are well worth considering because dolphins like to play in shallow water... places where SCUBA and snorkeling gear may not be needed. Also, dolphins -the ones you'll meet in Roatan- are not tame creatures and certainly not pets (as your guide will explain). They may not appreciate air bubbles. Most excursions last from 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
Price: Adults expect to pay $110 - $200
Booking Advice: Encounters are considered to be easy, but snorkeling and SCUBA are rated as moderate on the activity level scales. Reputable third party vendors do advertise slightly lower prices for dolphin encounters, but this fee won't cover your transportation needs. For all dolphin experiences, we strongly advise following your guide's instructions. Dolphins won't come when called like pets, so it's always important to let them come to you!
