Booking Advice: For many of the Cozumel beach escapes through cruise lines, the activity level will range from easy to moderate. However, we suggest that for beach escapes, it pays to shop around. For $10 admission and the cost of transportation (about 11 miles round trip), one adult can go to Chankannabe Park, enjoy the sights, & hang out on a beach. Third party vendors online offer some great deals on beach escapes. (As an FYI, San Francisco Beach receives very positive guest reviews.)
Tulum Tours
Without doubt, when it comes to archaelogical wonders nearby Cozumel, the Tulum Mayan Ruins Excursions are the most popular. Your guide will take you to the many highlights of this walled city with its 60 temples!
Price: Adults expect to pay around $89 through the cruise lines.
Booking Advice: This excursion is considered to be moderate in terms of physical exertion. Here are some other factors to consider before booking: 1) The ferry trip is an hour one way, and waves can get choppy. Anyone prone to seasickness needs to know that there could be 2 hours worth of misery to and from the Tulum site. 2) By law, the Mexican government charges up to $10 fee for bringing in video camera equipment to the Tulum site. 3) There's a tram to and from the site if you'd rather not walk, and that costs $1.50 round trip. 4) You will be responsible for your taxi/transportation fare back to your cruise ship after the ferry drops you off downtown. 5) For 4 or more people, third party vendors offer private charters to Tulum that are roughly $20 cheaper than the rates advertised by cruise lines. Because this is a popular tour, we recommend booking in advance for cruise line or third party Tulum excursions.
