Calica Shopping Guide

There are just a few shopping choices right at the pier in Calica. Playa del Carmen is just 3 miles from the dock and is the location for great shopping. You'll find a variety of vendors hawking souvenirs as well as activities at Calica. Prices for shopping right at the dock are relatively reasonable. However, you're best choices for shopping will be on 5th Avenue that runs parallel to the beach.

Here's a small sample of items you'll find in Calica:

  • Silver jewelry
  • Spanish paintings
  • Perfumes
  • Designer clothes

Calica Shopping Tips:

  • Many of the vendors accept both credit cards and cash. US Dollars are accepted by almost every vendor. Prices are in both USD and Mexican Pesos in in many cases. Pesos are always given as change.
  • Bartering / negotiating is an acceptable practice for some vendors. Start at half of what the item is marked. However, if for example, you are wishing to buy an original painting or craft by a well-known artist, the price is likely to be firm.  

The official currency of Calica is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Most places will take USD but you will typically get pesos in change. ATMs are available in the cruise ship terminal.
