Cruise Passenger Safety in Cartagena

Medical care is adequate in major cities but varies greatly in quality elsewhere. Some providers in major cities may accept credit cards, but those that do not may request advance payment in cash. Uninsured travelers without financial resources may be unable to obtain care, or relegated to seeking treatment in public hospitals where care is far below U.S. standards. Check with your insurance carrier to assure you have coverage out of country. Robbery and other violent crimes, as well as scams against unsuspecting tourists, are common in urban areas. As a matter of personal safety, it is advisable that you travel in groups, or go to places where there are large crowds of tourists when you are in Cartagena.

The Cartagena Police can be contacted by calling 112
