Quebec City Restaurant Guide

Considered to be the largest French speaking city beyond France, Quebec City has a centuries old love affair with cuisine. This city is home to North America's oldest grocery store, and the long held tradition of farmer's markets continues. -The message here? Expect to eat well in Quebec City. If you are a "foodie," you've just found a venerable corner of the world that could be conservatively viewed as dining paradise. Popular Restaurants in Quebec City:

Le Paris -Brest, located at 590 Grand -allee, gets rave reviews for main courses that average out at around C$25. This is a French restaurant that also features other European cuisine. Candles, mahogany panels, and fresh flowers add just the right touch as you dine on superb entrees including onion soup with brie graten, porketta agnolotti in Alfredo sauce, and scampi fricassee. The list of daily desserts does change, but is consistently delightful! Le Paris -Brest does accept major credit cards, and can be contacted at 418-529-2243. They are open Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

L' Echaude continues to be listed as one of those "must do" places in a city well known for wonderful cuisine! Located at 73 Rue Sault-au-Matelot, L' Echaude is one of those places the locals regularly frequent, which is always a good sign when you're looking for great food. Self described as a bistro, L' Echaude has a menu that includes soups and starters from 7 to C$14. Main courses range from 18 to C$28, and include the fresh fish of the day, duck confit, cornish hen with braised shrimp, vege plates, Steak Tartar, and grilled salmon. The wine list nicely emphasizes vintages from France. You're going to love this bistro for lunch or supper! L' Echaude is open from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Paillard Cafe -Boulangerie, located at 1097 Rue St-Jean, is another Quebec City venue where the local go. In this "foodie" town, that pretty much says everything. The cafe and bakery receives great reviews for soups, sandwiches, pastries, ice cream, and coffee. The prices (from 7 to C$9) are also a good deal. Sandwiches such as the ham with green apples and brie and the hot roast beef with horseradish, carmelized oinions, and blue cheese, are wonderful! The cafe seats diners at long wooden tables, and does get "hopping" at lunch time! Paillard Cafe is open from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM. The official currency is the Canadian dollar. Currency exchange stations are available at most local hotels and airports, though many tourist destinations accept major credit cards. Most retailers will accept US currency.
