Once upon a time, fish was thestaple on menus for diners in Progresso but today's eateries offer not only outstanding seafood, but dishes created from chicken, pork beef, and an outstanding assortment of vegetables and fruits.

Flamingos is a favorite of the locals offering ice cold beer and garlic fish on a patio overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Why waiting on your dinner enjoy the hard corn chips, refried beans, and ceviche. Menus include oysters, seafood soup, shrimp, shish-ka-bobs, fish fillets, pan de cazón and the seafood platter with lobster. Don't fancy seafood that there are poultry dishes, steaks and of course tacos. Hours are 7 am - 12 midnight. Prices are in the $20 range. MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Located at the oasis of Hotel Yakunah, Chez Michelle is a colorful, palapa-roofed restaurant just a block from the Gulf of Mexico offers a breakfast and lunch menu. Overflowing with tomato, onion, and green pepper The Spanish Omelette is a classic breakfast choice and is accompanied by fresh tropical fruits, and crispy, spiced pan-fried potatoes. Lunch choices included: Papaya Soup, Fish Filet Creole, Spare Ribs, and Arabian Spicy Chicken. Hours: 8am-6pmPrices are moderate. What better location to meet your friends and enjoy seafood while in Progresso than Buddy's? Offering dishes containing beef, pork and chicken the seafood platter remains the house specialty and most requested! Once upon a time menus in Progresso only offered fish, but today along with the seafood Buddy's offers pastas and spaghettis and garlic bread, BBQ ribs, hamburgers.Hours are 8am-8pm Prices are in the $25 range.MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Buddy's is located on the seaside boulevard malecón in Progresso.

Casa Isidora is a welcome respite in Progresso. If you order a meal, the internet is free. The menu is in English. It’s a great place for burgers and fries and also features excellent Margaritas. It is also the only Health Department approved restaurant in Progresso. Prices are inexpensive to moderate. Major credit cards are accepted. Casa Isadora is in walking distance of the Malecon and is located at Calle 21, No 116, Progreso, Yucatan. Their website is www.casaisidora.com.

Pueblo Viejo is located at the museum of the Dzibilchaltun Mayan ruins. The tacos al pastor are spiced with just enough kick to make it interesting. This is a Ministry of Tourism facility that ensures the cuisine is clean and good. Don’t forget to try a Negra Modelo Beer. Prices are inexpensive. Pueblo Viejo is located at the Dzibilchaltun site. Hours are 8am -4pm.

The official currency of Progreso is the Mexican Peso/MXN. Most places will take USD but you will get pesos in change. ATMs are available in the terminal.
