While there are a few restaurants along the road from the port to the town of MoBay, your best bet for the most varied dining options is the area in and around the Hip Strip. From laid-back restaurants where smoke from the jerk pits clouds the air to the more refined atmosphere of resort restaurants, there's a lunch niche for everyone.

The Groovy Grouper Beach Bar and Grill is located right on Doctor's Cave Beach (at the Beach Club), and is a casual dining spot which offers a menu of various genuine Jamaican and Caribbean dishes. Sit outside under the thatched roof and start with tasty Jamaican soup, and then move on to your main course where you have a choice of a grouper burger, jerked calamari fish and bammy (fried cassava flatbread), escoveitch fish (fish topped with a spicy vinegar and Scotch bonnet pepper mixture), or an 8-ounce grouper fillet dusted with jerk spices (Groovy Grouper's signature dish). Steaks and beef burgers are also menu options. Prices are $14US - $24US. The establishment is open for lunch and dinner. Other than the shellfish, most of the dishes fall to the lower end of the price scale. Many visitors and locals come here at lunch for one of the well-stuffed sandwiches, juicy burgers, or barbecued chicken. There is also wide array of Jamaican dishes from which to choose, including pork chops, snapper with a ginger sauce, stewed peas and rice, curried goat with johnny cakes, Caribbean fish, fried chicken and curried lobster. If you're searching for the best Jamaican jerk pork or jerk chicken in town, The Pork Pit is the place! Smothered with Jamaican spices then grilled, this Montego Bay restaurant serves some of the very best jerk. The pork and chicken are so tender and the spices get your taste buds hopping. (Note that the jerk is spiced to local taste, not toned down for the unsuspecting tourist.) Everything is very informal here, so don't expect fancy plates or utensils. And there's a good chance your drink will come in a cup or still in the can. Seating is available indoors where you order and pay or you can have a seat outdoors at one of the picnic tables set up around the grill. You can also get your food to go. There are three choices of meats: pork, chicken and beef - and are sold in half-pound and one-pound orders (the one pounder is enough for 2 people). Side dish choices are: corn on the cob, baked potato, baked yam, French fries or salad. Combo meals are available. Prices: 1 lb. of jerk pork US$12 – enough for 2 people.
