Fish Market visitors choose their meal from an ice-bed which displays seafood which is fresh caught daily. Once you've made your selection and have discussed the desired preparation of your meal with the chef, you retreat to your table to enjoy copious amounts of extras such as hummus, chickpea and seafood salads, cheeses and a variety of fresh breads – all while you take in an unforgettable view of the Mediterranean. So, if you want to enjoy a delicious seafood meal in the most upscale fish restaurant in Alexandria, the Fish Market is the place. The hours are from noon - 2 AM daily. Prices range from $16 - $27 USD for a full meal (including appetizers, side salads, and bread). The Fish Market is 4.5 miles from the cruise port – approximately 20 minutes by taxi and will cost roughly $15 USD (or you can walk the same distance in 30 - 40 minutes). If you choose a taxi, attempt to negotiate the price of the trip before getting in - and even then there's a good chance the price will have edged upward by the time you arrive at your destination. Mohammed Ahmed has the reputation as the King of Foul and Falafel and is considered a 'not to be missed' restaurant by those who have eaten here. When a local place stays perpetually packed with local folks, you know they're doing something right. At super reasonable prices, the Mohammed Ahmed serves great 'standard' Egyptian dishes including: foul, fresh falafel bites, mezze, salads such as tahini, banga (beetroot) or pickles and an outstanding lentil soup - all accompanied by the usual bread and humus. Prices are around 8 - $10 USD per meal. Mohammed Ahmed, is about 2 miles (approximately 10 minutes) and a cab ride from the cruise port to the restaurant will cost roughly $20USD. Samakmak located in a suitably weathered building near the port where the fishing boats dock so close you could throw the fish straight from the dock to the restaurant grill. Inside, the place has a slightly more formal atmosphere than the exterior would lead you to believe and the menu offers exquisitely fresh seafood including: crayfish, crab tagen (stew cooked in a deep clay pot), grilled fish, fried calamari, spaghetti with clams and a famous jumbo shrimp platter. All meals are served with traditional Middle-Eastern-style sides of salad, rice, bean dishes and fresh baked bread. The staff is friendly and helpful. Hours: are1:00 PM- 2:00 AM Monday through Saturday and reservations are recommended. Prices range from $15 - $25 USD. They are located at 42 Shar'a Raes Al Tin, El Anfushi, Alexandria which is 3.5 miles from the cruise ship terminal.
