Diamond Princess Pool and Sunbathing

The Diamond Princess has pools that are strategically located throughout the ship, and all pools are filled with freshwater. The Calypso Reef and Pool is located on Deck 14 (Lido Deck), The Calypso has two adjoining whirlpools. This pool is covered.

Also located also on Deck 14 (Lido Deck) is the Neptune Reef and Pool, which is adjacent to the pizzeria, and boasts a 300 square foot Movie screen with movies shown throughout the day and evening. It has two whirlpools, and is about the same depth (about five feet) as the Calypso Pool.

The little kids have a Paddling Pool, located inside the Youth Center on Deck 15. Older children have a larger Splash Pool, adjacent to the Youth Center. Inside the Lotus Spa, is the Lap Pool.  The Lap Pool is an "adults only" pool.

Aft on Deck 16 (Sports Deck), there are a couple of whirlpools on either side of the Oasis Bar. The other "adults only" pool is the Terrace Pool, which is located aft on Deck 12 (Aloha Deck). Both of these places are a bit more quiet than the main pool areas on the Lido Deck.

Aft on Deck 15 (Sun Deck) is the Izumi Japanese Bath. This experience is only offered by Princess Cruises on the Diamond Princess. This is a traditional Japanese public bath, and it offers two indoor areas that have eight whirlpools. A sauna and seated waterfalls are also part of Izumi! A second sauna includes a eucalyptus mist. No clothing is permitted in the indoor sections of Izumi, so there are blocks of time just for women, and specific times only for men. For the outdoor sections of the Izumi Japanese Bath, swimsuits are required. The per person charge for the Izumi Japanese Bath is 20 USD for 90 minutes, and 80 USD for five baths.

Diamond Princess Pool and Sunbathing Tips:

  • When arriving in the pool area, you will need to sign-out a towel. There will be a 22 USD charge per towel to your onboard account for each towel you fail to return. These are sturdy towels and if you want to purchase one, you can from the order form in your room.
  • Babies & Infants in Pools: Princess's official policy is "no swim diapers, children must be potty trained."  Princess stresses this point to all the families that bring their kids. We have not heard reports on whether or not the policy is strictly enforced.
  • While Princess does its best to discourage this, sunbathers do show-up at 8 AM and try to hog the lounge chairs for the day.
  • Headphones are a must if a movie is playing at the pool.
  • There's free popcorn at the pool during the movie.
