Norwegian Gem Main Dining Rooms

Norwegian Cruise Line created Freestyle Dining -- a flexible approach to dining in the restaurant of your choice, at a time convenient for you. You can almost always show up without a reservation and be seated right away when the Magenta and the Grand Pacific are open.

Magenta:

NCL_dining_SummerPalaceFamilyBThe Magenta on the Norwegian Gem is located on Deck 6. Magenta is the smaller main dining room. Light, healthy cuisine is the specialty here, but generally there's something for just about every appetite. Starters include crab dip, fruit, and soups such as chilled apple bisque and beet soup. Entrees featured in the Magenta dining room on the Norwegian Gem include grilled salmon, lean burgers, and fusilli pasta and barbecued pork are among main entrees featured on the lunch menu, and for dinner expect to find beef, fish, poultry, and vegetarian selections. For dessert you will find pies, berries served in Grand Marnier sauce, fruit, and ice cream among your choices.

The Grand Pacific:

The Grand Pacific dining room on the Norwegian Gem is aft on Deck 6. The decor of Grand Pacific takes you back to the dining elegance of the Matson Line Ships, which sailed to Hawaii. The Grand Pacific is the larger, more elegant main dining room where you can expect a menu which will include traditional favorites as well as more contemporary cuisine. The Norwegian Gem's Grand Pacific restaurant receives some very strong guest reviews, particularly from Bahamas cruisers.

Tips for the Norwegian Gem's Main Dining Rooms

  • Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 9:00am, lunch is from noon to 2:30pm, and dinner hours are from 5:30pm to midnight.
  • Bare feet, jeans, shorts, tank tops, and swim wear are not permitted. As a rule, shorts and jeans are not permitted after 6:00pm. For gentlemen, smart casual such as slacks and polo style shirts are more appropriate at dinner time.
  • Meals are no cost, but special beverages, wines, beer, and soft drinks may be purchased via current bar menu.
  • When ordering steaks and other meats, specify your grilling preference.

Guest Reviews of the Norwegian Gem's Main Dining Rooms

  • There are some recent, periodic concerns about overall staff attentiveness and problems with food temperature (entrees too cold, salads too warm...) on the Norwegian Gem. However, keep in mind that kitchen staff change frequently - this may no longer be a concern.
  • Neither main dining room on the Norwegian Gem receives outstanding praise for desserts.
  • Send us your review of the Norwegian Gem's main dining rooms! We need your thoughts on what you liked about the restaurant, and, what you think could be improved. Use the form at the bottom of this page to let us know your impressions.
