Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins on the Star Princess

Deck 5 -- Plaza Deck

Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

While it is possible to find peace and quiet in a stateroom on Plaza Deck of the Star Princess, several cabins are beneath busy public venues that are noise sources. These venues include the theater, a bar, and the casino.

• Forward on Deck 5 of the Star Princess, Ocean View Staterooms P202- P242 port side and P201- P241 starboard are under the lower level of the theater. Noise generated from this area could occur during rehearsals and performances, and from staff prep work and tidying up before and after shows. Interior cabins in this area that will be most affected by the theater are P212- P244, P249- P265, and P215- P243.
• Ocean View Stateroom P208 port side is across the hall from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat from the laundry when it is busy could be a problem in this cabin.
• Interior Staterooms P212 and P249 share walls with the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be concerns in either of these cabins when the laundry is busy.
• Ocean View Staterooms P246 and P248 port side and P245 and P247 starboard are beneath public bathrooms. Noise -such as hearing water rush through pipes- could be issues in these cabins.
• Staterooms under the casino on Deck 5 of the Star Princess are P302- P320 port side and P301- P321 starboard, and inside cabins P318- P331. These cabins might have after hours noise issues. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).
• Several of the worst cabins on board the Star Princess are on the Plaza Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks which will be more quiet.

Deck 8 -- Emerald Deck

Along this entire deck, you should be aware that the Promenade Deck of the Star Princess is right beneath your cabin. Noise could drift up from the theater, and bars that include the main lounge. Some of these venues feature live music and have dance floors, so there is a likelihood of after hours noise concerns. Deck 8 also has several Ocean View Staterooms that have obstructed views. Princess Cruises does offer good bargains for staterooms with obstructed views, and the windows in these exterior cabins do provide ambient light. However, if you are looking for a clear view of the ocean, you may want to confirm your preference when reserving a cabin on this deck!

• Ocean View Staterooms E102- E120 port side and E101- E121 starboard have windows that face the Upper Level of Promenade Deck. Because this area is a public walkway, drawing curtains over the windows to assure privacy is recommended.
• On the Star Princess Deck 8, there are several cabins above the upper level of the theater but none are located directly above the stage. These are exterior cabins E202- E222 port side and E201- E223 starboard. There could be noise generated from rehearsals and performances, as well as before and after when staff are either preparing for a show or cleaning up after one. Noise from the theater is not likely to be much of an after hours concern.
• Port side, E312- E422 are above relatively quiet areas, to include the cruise excursions desk and a shop on Promenade Deck.
• Starboard, E309- E423 are above Crown Grill and Crooner's Bar. Noise might be a concern in any of these cabins.
• E502- E519 port side and E501- E519 are above the Explorer's Lounge. Noise late into the evening could be problematic in any of these cabins.
• There are few interior staterooms located on Deck 8 of the Star Princess, and we suggest that you look for an inside cabin on another, higher deck to avoid noise issues.
• E716 and E717 are wheelchair accessible.
• There are several cabins categorized as having obstructed views. These are E210- E714 port side and E209- E715 starboard. As mentioned, if a view of the ocean is important to you we suggest this is clarified when you reserve a stateroom on Deck 8 of the Star Princess!
• Obstructed Ocean View Staterooms E618 and E619 are across the halls from the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be concerns in these cabins when this facility is busy.
• Aft, E710- E730 port side and E709- E731 starboard, and Interior Staterooms E716 and E717 are above the Vista Lounge. Noise late into the evening could be concerns in any of these staterooms or suites.
• Several of the worst cabins on the Star Princess are on the Emerald Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks that will be more quiet.

Deck 9 -- Dolphin Deck

On the Star Princess, Dolphin Deck staterooms and suites have the advantage of cabin decks above and beneath, so there's a buffer zone from the noise generated from public areas. These accommodations are likely more quiet than those on the lower decks! The balcony accommodations on Deck 9 are not covered. While these balconies are great for lounging in the sun, it's important to remember that you can be seen from balconies on higher decks! 

• Forward, the Two Bedroom Family Balcony Suites, D105 and D106, boast 595 total square footage. However, given their forward location on Deck 9 of the Star Princess, be prepared for a rather windy view (unless there's a tailwind). Family cabins are in short supply and are very popular given their attractive sleeping arrangements. They sell out very quickly, so, it is best to book early to get a family cabin.
• There are several mini-suites with balconies from which to choose on Deck 9 of the Star Princess (D110- D732 port side and D109- D733 starboard). Each of these has up to 323 total square footage!
• Mini Suites D118, D120, and D119, and Interior Staterooms D116, D117, and D123 are quite close to a an area for the crew. Noise could be an issue in any of these staterooms. This could be especially bothersome in the inside cabins.
• Interior Staterooms D712 and D711 are right next to elevators and will likely have resulting noise issues.
• Mini Suites D722 and D723 are across the halls from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat could be concerns in these suites when this facility is busy.
• Interior Staterooms D720 and D721 share walls with the Self Service Laundry on Deck 9 of the Star Princess. Heat and noise could be problems in these staterooms when the laundry is busy.
• Mini Suites D732 and D733 have larger balconies than standard.
• Aft, Vista Suites D736 and D737 each have up to 527 total square footage. They are the largest suites on Deck 9 of the Star Princess, and have that beautiful (and less breezy) aft view of the ocean.
• Premium Balcony Staterooms D734 and D735 are right next to the Vista Suites on Deck 9, and will have that same highly sought after view of the ocean.

Deck 10 -- Caribe Deck

For anyone looking for a Balcony Stateroom on the Star Princess, Caribe Deck is strongly recommended. With cabin decks above and below to buffer noise, it's going to be more quiet in these staterooms. Caribe Deck Balcony Staterooms each have a balcony that is typically 81 square feet. On each, the first five feet is covered, so you are provided with sunshine as well as protection. Some of the best cabins are on Caribe Deck of the Star Princess!

• Moving from forward to aft, in our opinion, the best situated balcony suites and staterooms on Caribe Deck of the Star Princess are as follows. Port side, we suggest C104- C250, C326- C410, C510- C530, and C714- C748. Starboard, we recommend C103- C251, C325- C409, C509- C531, and C751- C749.
• Of the inside cabins on Caribe Deck of the Star, C248 and C252 are wheelchair accessible.
• Balcony Staterooms C301- C304 are wheelchair accessible on Deck 10 of the Star Princess.
• Balcony Staterooms C314 and C311 are across the halls from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat from the laundry when it is busy could be issues in these cabins.
• Interior Stateroom C312 shares a wall with the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise could be a problem in this stateroom when the laundry is busy.
• Interior Staterooms C536 and C537 are right by an area for crew. Noise could be a problem in either of these staterooms.
• There are 12 luxurious Penthouse Suites on Deck 10 (C402- C424 port side and C401- C425 starboard). Each has up to 526 total square footage.
• Aft, Balcony Staterooms C742 port side and C743 starboard have larger than standard balconies.
• Aft on Deck 10 of the Star Princess, Vista Suites C750 and C751 each have 527 total square footage and balconies that will offer gorgeous views.
• Aft located Penthouse Suites C748 and C749 each offer up to 473 total square footage and beautiful ocean views.
• Also aft on Deck 10 of the Star Princess, Balcony Staterooms C752 and C753 are located beside the Premium Suites, and each will have a larger than standard balcony that is covered.

Deck 11 -- Baja Deck

While the majority of the accommodations on Baja Deck are Balcony Staterooms and inside cabins, aft on this deck of the Star Princess is the most luxurious suite of all. Given that this is where the high rent district is located, this is also where the best cabin stewards are assigned. Once again, a stateroom or suite on this deck has that advantage of cabins below and above, making this a more quiet location for a reservation on the Star Princess. Many of the best cabins on the Star Princess are on the Baja Deck.

• In our opinion, the best situated Balcony Staterooms and suites on Baja Deck of the Star Princess are as follows. Port side, we recommend B206- B250, B314- B418, B510- B530, B614- B626, and B716- B748. Starboard, we suggest B205- B251, B319- B419, B509- B531, B615- B627, and B717- B749.
• Balcony Staterooms B301- B304 are wheelchair accessible.
• Port side and starboard, all exterior staterooms have balconies on Deck 11 of the Star Princess.
• Past guests of B621 have indicated that considerable noise issues from a kitchen area above were problematic. This cabin is not recommended for light sleepers.
• Balcony Staterooms B710 and B709 are across the halls from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat could be issues in these staterooms when this facility is busy.
• Interior Staterooms B714 and B715 share walls with the Self Service Laundry. Heat and noise when the laundry is busy could be problems in these cabins.
• Balcony Staterooms B744 and B745 have hull balconies that are at an angle.
• Aft, the largest and most luxurious suite on the Star Princess is B748. This Grand Suite boasts up to 1, 314 total square footage and a fantastic ocean view!
• Aft, B751 is an Owner's Suite that will offer up to 591 total square footage and a beautiful ocean view.
• Located between the Grand Suite and the Owner's Suite, B749, a Penthouse Suite has up to 473 total square footage.

Deck 12 -- Aloha Deck

Except for staterooms located forward most on this deck, the majority of cabins on the Aloha Deck of the Star Princess are under the Lido Deck pools, bar, and casual eateries that include the buffet. Noise from these venues could be an issue for light sleepers.

• Balcony Staterooms A202 and A201, and Interior Staterooms A204 and A203 are next to a an area reserved for crew. Noise could  be a problem in any of these staterooms.
• The best located staterooms, in our opinion, on Aloha Deck of the Star Princess are Balcony Staterooms A206- A310 port side, A205- A309 starboard, and Interior Staterooms A208- A248 and A207- A253.
• Balcony Staterooms A301- A304 are wheelchair accessible. Inside cabins A248 and A252 are also designated as wheelchair accessible.
• Inside cabin 241 on Aloha Deck of the Star Princess has received some very positive reviews, and was described by guests as roomy and quiet!
• Interior Staterooms A312 and A315 are next to a crew area. Noise could be a concern in these cabins.
• Interior Staterooms A514, A508, A515, and A507 each have over 20 square feet more room than standard.
• Balcony Staterooms A610 and A609 are across the halls from the Self Service Laundry. Noise and heat when the laundry is busy could be issues in these cabins.
• Balcony Staterooms A314- A746 port side and A311- A743 starboard, and Interior Staterooms A312- A344, A315- A421, A508- A520, A507- A521, A712- A744, and A711- A745 are beneath the public areas on Lido Deck, which includes the pools, the pool decks, and Horizon Court. Noise could be a concern in any of these staterooms.
• Aft, Ocean View Staterooms A748, A750, A747, and A749 are nearby the Terrace Pool. While these cabins do not have balconies, they have decks around them and a great view of the ocean!

Deck 14 -- Lido Deck

Lido Deck features cabins in the most forward area of this deck on the Star Princess. Most of these staterooms are beneath the spa on Sun Deck, which can be handy if you plan on using the fitness center or frequenting the spa!

• On Lido Deck of the Star Princess, Balcony Staterooms L202 and L206 port side and L201- L227 starboard, and Interior Staterooms L204- L216 and L203- L217 are beneath the noisiest areas in the forward section of Sun Deck. Noise could be an issue in any of these cabins when the fitness facilities are open.
• Balcony Staterooms L308- L312 port side and L307- L311 starboard are beneath the vicinity of Tradewinds where there is a small bar. Noise could be an issue in any of these cabins.
• L312 and L311 are also closest to the action on Lido Deck. While that might be desirable, the location of these two staterooms could also put you closer to the noise the pool areas generate.
• In our opinion, the best located accommodations on Deck 14 of the Star Princess are Balcony Staterooms L210- L250 port side and L231- L251 starboard, and Interior Staterooms L220- L248 and L221- L253.
• L202- L312 port side and L201- 311 starboard are all Balcony Staterooms.
• Inside cabins L248 and L252 are wheelchair accessible on Lido Deck of the Star Princess.
