Sun Princess Best & Worst Staterooms: Summary

Cabins to be wary of onboard the Sun Princess: staterooms on Decks 6 and 8 - Emerald Deck and Dolphin Deck.

Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins onboard the Sun Princess

Deck 5 -- Plaza Deck

Deck 5 cabins on the Sun Princess have the advantage of cabins directly above them, which buffers the noises from public areas above. Consequently, a cabin on Plaza Deck could be quieter than those on decks situated above or below public areas such as bars and lounges which can be noisy late at night.

  • The ocean view staterooms and the interior cabins each have 147 to 155 sq. ft. of living space, and are on the same deck as the lower main dining room.
  • Forward on Plaza Deck of the Sun Princess, ocean view staterooms P228- P244 port side and P225- P237 are larger than standard on Deck 5 of the Sun Princess.
  • Also forward, inside staterooms P230, P232, P227, P234- P229, P314, P317, and P315 are larger than the others on Plaza Deck of the Sun Princess.

Deck 6 -- Emerald Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.
Most of the cabins on Deck 6 of the Sun Princess are located under a popular bar which does feature music and dancing and could mean noise issues into the wee hours of the morning!

  • The best cabins with the least amount of noise on Deck 6 will be E304, E306, E348, and E350. These are all exterior staterooms port side, and none of these are directly under the bar area on Promenade Deck of the Sun Princess.
  • There are few interior staterooms located on Deck 6 of the Sun, and all of these (E311- E349) are situated most directly under the bar area. We suggest that you look for an inside cabin on another, higher deck to avoid noise issues.
  • On Deck 6 of the Sun Princess, exterior cabins E309- E353 are under the bar areas as well. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).
  • Several of the worst cabins onboard the Sun Princess are on the Emerald Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks which will be quieter.

Deck 8 -- Dolphin Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***
Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.
On the Sun Princess, several Dolphin Deck staterooms are right above public areas on Promenade Deck which can be noisy into the wee hours. It is possible, with a bit of strategy, to locate quieter areas on this deck, however. Given the fact that Princess often has value rates for exterior staterooms with obstructed views, and some these just happen to be in a relatively less noisy area, it is possible for budget minded travelers to locate a nice, cost effective stateroom on Deck 8.

  • Forward on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess, the best cabins will be D240- D318 port side. Although these are generally over the bar area, most of the night action will be affecting other staterooms more directly over the dance floor area.
  • Forward, staterooms over the theater are exterior cabins D208- D236 port side, D207- D237 starboard, and interior cabins D202- D238 and D201- D239 on the Sun Princess. While noise generated from the theater area may not be much of concern late at night, there could be issues during performances, as well as before and after shows when staff are cleaning.
  • On Deck 8 of the Sun Princess, exterior staterooms D324- D334 port side, D305- D339 starboard, and interior cabins D322- D335 are all generally over the bar. This could mean noises into the wee hours. Again, we do suggest that light sleepers locate a cabin on another deck, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine.
  • Aft on the Dolphin Deck of the Sun Princess, exterior staterooms D702- D750 port side, D701- D753 starboard, and interior cabins D707- D747 are just above the aft main lounge, and this could mean noise issues after hours on the Sun Princess.
  • Exterior cabins D324- D332 and D327- D337 do have obstructed views on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess.
  • Cabins D311, D315, D324, D327, D326, and D329 are designated as wheelchair accessible.
  • Quieter staterooms are located just before the aft elevators on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess. Exterior staterooms D602- D620 port side and D601- D623 starboard all have obstructed views, but do happen to be located above relatively quiet public areas (such as the photo shop, internet cafe, and reading room). The only inside staterooms we recommend on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess are in this vicinity, and these are D612, D615, and D611.
  • Aft on Dolphin Deck of the Sun Princess, the most spacious suites are D750 and D753. Each has 516 sq. ft. including balcony space, and will have that wonderful (less breezy) ocean view.
  • Also aft, D748 and D751 are mini-suites located next to the most luxurious suites on Deck 8 of the Sun Princess. Each has 413 sq. ft. including balcony space, and will have that same splendid view of the ocean.
  • Several of the worst cabins onboard the Sun Princess are on the Dolphin Deck. While we are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, there are staterooms on other decks which will be quieter.

Deck 9 -- Caribe Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***
Highly rated by our cruise experts!
The Sun Princess features the most spacious and luxurious suites on Caribe Deck, and this typically means that this is where the best cabin stewards are usually assigned. Having cabins above and below also makes this one of the quieter decks on your cruise! Some of the best cabins on the Sun Princess are located on Caribe Deck!

  • Interior staterooms C305, C306, C314, and C315 are wheelchair accessible on Deck 9 of the Sun Princess.
  • There are several balcony staterooms on the Caribe Deck of the Sun Princess. Port side, these are C220- C232, C312- C628, and C706- C742. Starboard, these are C221- C233, C311- C629, and C705- C743.
  • Aft on Deck 9 of the Sun Princess, the most spacious luxury suites on the Sun Princess are C746 and C749. Including balcony space, these each have 695 sq. ft., and command that stunning (less breezy) ocean view.
Also aft, the two largest mini-suites on the Sun Princess, C744 and C747, each have 536 sq. ft. including balcony space. The mini-suites are situated beside the luxury suites, and will have a great view of the ocean.

Deck 10 -- Baja Deck

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***
Highly rated by our cruise experts!
Baja Deck on the Sun Princess is also a high rentĀ district. Some of the best cabins on the Sun Princess are located on Baja Deck! Because some of the most luxurious suites are located on this deck, this will also be where the best cabin stewards are assigned. Baja Deck on the Sun Princess also features several mini-suites with balconies as well!

  • Cabins B335, B306, B305, B311, and B312 are designated as wheelchair accessible.
  • In addition to several staterooms with balconies, Baja Deck also has an abundance of mini-suites from which to choose. Including balcony space, each mini-suite has 365 sq. ft. on Deck 10 of the Sun Princess. Most of these are B308- B428 port side and B307- B429 starboard.
  • Aft, the most spacious and luxurious of the suites on the Baja Deck of the Sun Princess are B748 and B753. Each has 678 sq. ft. including balcony space, and both have that incredible (less breezy) view of the ocean.
  • Among the best located suites on Baja Deck of the Sun Princess are B750 and B755. Both are a bit smaller, but are by the luxury suites, and have majestic aft ocean views!

Deck 11 -- Aloha Deck

Aloha Deck doesn't feature luxury suites, but does have an expanse of balcony staterooms and inside rooms. Because cabin decks below and above provide some buffer to the noise from public venues, staterooms are likely to be quieter on Deck 11 of the Sun Princess.

  • Inside cabins A307, A308, A314, and A315 are designated as wheelchair accessible on Deck 11 of the Sun Princess.
  • Most of the exterior cabins on Deck 11 of the Sun Princess are staterooms with balconies (A302- A740 port side and A301- A745 starboard).
  • Aloha Deck on the Sun Princess has numerous interior staterooms, and all of these will be relatively quieter than those found on decks just above or beneath decks featuring public areas.

Deck 12 -- Riviera Deck

On the Sun Princess, Deck 12 could be a wonderful location for travelers who like to be near the pool. For the most part, staterooms on Riviera Deck were very thoughtfully arranged. None are directly under the dance floor in Horizon Court. There could be some noise from above from the casual buffets directly above, but this is not likely to be a late night concern.

  • Exterior staterooms R350 and R351 are right next to public bathrooms and could be noisy as a result. We suggest moving a little farther forward on Deck 12 of the Sun Princess to avoid any concerns with this.
  • On Deck 12 of the Sun Princess, there are seven interior cabins closest to being under the dance floor area on Lido Deck of the Sun Princess (R305- R318). Reserving a stateroom farther aft is probably a good idea.
