For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Valparaiso. You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Valparaiso to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

City Highlights

City tour agendas do vary, but expect to see Santiago highlights including Club Hipico (horse racing track), the 19th century Cousino Palace, Plaza de Armas (main square), the Alameda (main avenue), the Bellavista district, a panoramic view from San Cristobal Hill, and the chance to stroll and shop at Los Dominicos handicraft market. Lunch is usually included at a restaurant near the market.

Price: Adults expect to pay from $101- $150 for an 8 hour tour that typically includes lunch.

Booking Advice: Due to the walking involved, this tour is rated as moderate in terms of physical exercise. Third party vendors online appear to offer less expensive options worth considering.

The Casablanca Winery, a Little Cooking Lesson, Lunch, and thenTour

When you have those opportunities in life to learn from the best, and you're really on vacation at the same time, then you're likely about to make some great memories along with your lunch! This adventure begins 25 miles out of Santiago in the Casablanca Valley (wine country), where you visit Vina Mar and learn about their wines before shopping for one. Then, it's back to Valparaiso, where you'll first visit the farmer's market to get your groceries for the lunch you'll learn to prepare... which, by the way, will match your wine. After dining, you'll visit Pablo Neruda's house, La Sebastiana, and La Cerro Conception.

Price: Adults expect to pay at least $150 for this 6.5 hour adventure.

Booking Advice: For what you'll be seeing and learning, this adventure through the cruise lines is competitively priced. However, if you just want to visit a winery or Pablo Neruda's house, you can save at least $50 by booking through an online 3rd party vendor. This cruise line excursion as we've described it is rated as moderately physically taxing due to the walking involved.

Coastal Tour

You'll see Valparaiso's old town and down town area as you head for the Vina del Mar resort. You'll see the floral clock, the exterior of the 1930's casino, and visit the Fonck Museum (items from Easter Island and Chilean mainland).

Price: Adults expect to pay up to $50 through the cruise lines for a 3.5 hour tour.

Booking Advice: This excursion is rated as easy in terms of physical exertion. You may, for sake of cost comparisons and tour variety, want to check out 3rd party vendors.

City highlights you'll see in Valparaiso on this tour include the Paseo 21 de Mayo (promenade), El Plan, the Plaza Sotomayor, the Naval Headquarters, the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique, fantastic old business building, the Mercurio Building, the Stock Exchange, the Public Library, Plaza Victoria (all the rage in 1880), and see the 20th century cathedral. Booking Advice: This tour is rated as moderately difficult due to the walking involved. We do suggest comparing prices and tour agendas offered by 3rd party vendors for similar city tours because you're likely to save some money.

Wine and Horses- Chile!

Since the 1980's, it's become known that the wines from Casablanca Valley are similar to California's Napa Valley, so that's where you get to go first. Learn about wine making at a winery in Casablanca Valley, and taste some if you'd like. From there, you visit Puro Caballo and learn from a Chilean cowboy (a huaso) about the famous Chilean horses. While sipping wine or Pisco Sour, watch an equestrian exhibition in true Chilean rodeo style. En route back, you'll pass through the Vina del Mar resort and visit the Fonck Museum.

Price: Adults expect to pay at least $150 for this 7 hour tour.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as moderately difficult due to the walking involved. We do suggest comparing prices and tour agendas offered by 3rd party vendors for similar city tours because you're likely to save some money.

Third Party Shore Excursions in Valparaiso

Below are links to third-party shore excursion vendors in Valparaiso (Santiago) Chile. These links will launch in a new browser window and are external sites. We bear no responsibility for the content or services offered at these sites.
3rd party shore excursions often have advantages over shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Third party shore excursions can be less costly and feature smaller groups than shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Often, the vendors you buy from directly are the same vendors used by the cruise lines themselves.

The benefit of buying shore excursions from the cruise line is that the vendors and pre-screened for safety and reliablity. While cruise lines shore excursions can be more expensive than buying direct from a local vendor, there is certainly peace of mind that the cruise line will be using a reliable, safe and trusted vendor. If you experience a problem with the vendor on a cruise line-sold shore excursion, the shore excursion managers onboard the cruise ship will likely be an invaluable resource to help settle disputes.
