You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Tokyo to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

Imperial Palace Grounds, Meiji Shrine, and Temple

Built on the site of the palace that was home to the Tokugawa Shoguns (1604 to 1846), you'll spend 40 minutes on a guided tour of the expanse of gardens, and see moats and the two tiered Nijubashe Bridge. You'll then see the Meiji Shrine, which commemorates the “Father of Modern Japan,” Emporer Torigates. Here, you'll enter the Tori gates, which at 40 ft. are the tallest in Japan. You'll next visit Asakusa Kannon Temple, which was built in the early 1600's, and see the Naka mise dori (Street of the inside shops).

Price: Adults expect to pay around 230 AUD through the cruise lines for and 8.5 hour excursion that includes a Western style lunch.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as moderate in terms of physical difficulty due to the walking involved. Cruise line prices appear to be fairly competitive, but we do suggest cost and itinerary comparisons with online 3rd party vendors.

Kamakura, Great Buddha, and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

When you visit Kamakura, you'll be seeing the seat of power for Japan's first shogun. You'll view the 38 ft. tall Great Buddha, and tour the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (1100's). Then, time is planned for shopping along Komachi-Dori Street.

Third Party Shore Excursions in Tokyo

Below are links to third-party shore excursion vendors in Tokyo. These links will launch in a new browser window and are external sites. We bear no responsibility for the content or services offered at these sites.
3rd party shore excursions often have advantages over shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Third party shore excursions can be less costly and feature smaller groups than shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Often, the vendors you buy from directly are the same vendors used by the cruise lines themselves.

The benefit of buying shore excursions from the cruise line is that the vendors and pre-screened for safety and reliablity. While cruise lines shore excursions can be more expensive than buying direct from a local vendor, there is certainly peace of mind that the cruise line will be using a reliable, safe and trusted vendor. If you experience a problem with the vendor on a cruise line-sold shore excursion, the shore excursion managers onboard the cruise ship will likely be an invaluable resource to help settle disputes.
