Seward Shore Excursion Guide

Cruise lines offer a number of shore excursions for sale when visiting Seward. For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Seward. You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Seward to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

Kenai Fjords

For 7 to 8.5 hours, your guided boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park will afford you the opportunity to view whales, seabirds, sea lions, seals, and puffins as you travel through some of the most awe-inspiring scenery on the planet. This full day excursion includes lunch.

Price: Adults expect to pay from $104 to $199.

Booking Advice: This excursion is rated as easy in terms of physical exertion. This also happens to be the most popular tour in the Seward area, and does have limited capacity, so we do suggest booking early. Check out third party vendors for less expensive Resurrection Bay tours if these are of interest to you. No one can guarantee that you'll sight wildlife on wilderness excursions, but it is likely that you will.

Alaska SeaLife Center

Tours to the Alaska SeaLife Center, from 3 to 8.5 hours in length, afford you the opportunity to sea marine wildlife closer than possible in the wilderness. You'll see Alaskan King Crab, Steller Sea Lions, Giant Pacific octopus, seals. And intertidal creatures all in habitats, designed to approximate natural surroundings. A tour highlight is the education and observation of puffins. Lunch is included on the longer (8.5 hour) tours, and there's typically an opportunity to shop.

Price: Adults expect to pay from $65 to $124, depending upon the length of the tour.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as easy with regard to physical exercise. Third party vendors offer the SeaLife Tour combined with a Trolley tour for less money.

Resurrection Bay Wildlife Excursion

These boat excursions last about 3.5 hours, and include seeing Bear Glacier and Thumb Cove's hanging glaciers as you tour this bay. Wild life and marine life you may see include whales, eagles, murres, puffins, sea lions, otters, and Dall's Porpoises. Typically a snack is also included. As is true for all tours in the wilderness, wildlife sightings can not be guaranteed.

Kayaking

This 3 hour tour of Resurrection Bay begins from Lowell Point, where you'll kayak toward Tonsina Creek and the start of Kenai Fjords National Park. Wild life and marine life that you may sight include leaping salmon, otters, sea lions, eagles, and harbor porpoises.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $120.

Booking Advice: While this excursion is rated well for families and considered to be a good introduction to kayaking, it is physically demanding so there are age requirements and physical restrictions. Resurrection River float trips advertised through third party vendors at less cost might be an alternative to consider.

This 2.5 hour adventure is conducted by the Seavey Family. (Mike Seavey and his dogs were the 2004 Iditarod Champions). The 2 mile wheeled sled dog ride tours the base of Resurrection Mountain and follows Box Canyon River. Learning a bit about these incredible dogs & seeing cute husky pups is also part of the deal.

Third Party Shore Excursions in Seward

Below are links to third-party shore excursion vendors in Seward. These links will launch in a new browser window and are external sites. We bear no responsibility for the content or services offered at these sites.
3rd party shore excursions often have advantages over shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Third party shore excursions can be less costly and feature smaller groups than shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Often, the vendors you buy from directly are the same vendors used by the cruise lines themselves.

The benefit of buying shore excursions from the cruise line is that the vendors and pre-screened for safety and reliablity. While cruise lines shore excursions can be more expensive than buying direct from a local vendor, there is certainly peace of mind that the cruise line will be using a reliable, safe and trusted vendor. If you experience a problem with the vendor on a cruise line-sold shore excursion, the shore excursion managers onboard the cruise ship will likely be an invaluable resource to help settle disputes.
