Saint John Shore Excursion Guide

Cruise lines offer a number of shore excursions for sale when visiting Saint John. For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Saint John. You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Saint John to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

Bay of Fundy by Land & Sea

After visiting Saint John's historic uptown, you'll stop by Fallsview Park where the river and ocean combine to yield the Reversing Falls Rapids. After that, you'll board a boat for a Saint John Harbour Cruise, and a guide will highlight points of interest including historical sites and local lore. You'll disembark at Market Slip.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $82.

Booking Advice: These tours are 2.5 hours long, and are rated as moderate in terms of physical exertion due to the walking involved.

Bay of Fundy & Saint Andrews By-The-Sea on a coach and on the Pink Bus

These 5 hour excursions take you first to St. Andrew By-The-Sea, a town established in 1783 by Empire Loyalists, where you'll view early 18th century architecture including the Saint Andrew Blockhouse (from the era of the War of 1812) and the Algonquin Resort. There's opportunity to shop among the boutiques before you leave town, and you'll find woolen goods and handmade crafts. Back in Saint John the pink bus tours offer up to 3 loops, one of which includes a jaunt to see the Reversing Falls.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $62.

Booking Advice: These tours are rated as easy with regard to physical exertion. For the money, this is, in our opinion, a great way to see some popular & fascinating sights & exercise some individual preferences on a guided tour.

Kayaking & Lobster Cookout

This 4 hour excursion begins with a one and a half hour kayak trip on St. John River (on very calm water). Indigenous wildlife (osprey, seals, ducks, eagles, & hawks) might be sighted, and you'll have opportunity to view coves, fossils, and rock formations at this UNESCO designated site. Lunch (lobster or chicken, mussels, veggies, dessert) is served by the river before the return trip home.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $134.

Booking Advice: This excursion receives a moderate activity level rating. There must be a minimum of 16 people for this tour, and it does go on “rain or shine.”

Hopewell Rock Formations

This all day (7 hour) tour takes you by coach through scenic New Brunswick countryside to a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve- the awe inspiring Hopewell Rocks. Shaped by the 50 ft. high tides that sweep the area twice a day, these massive rocks were created by tectonic plates clashing and glaciers. You then have lunch at the local Hightide Cafe.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $136.

Booking Advice: Because the walking is on slippery and pebble strewn surfaces, this activity receives a moderate rating with regard to activity level.

Pink Bus Hop On/Off City Tours

With three loops at your selection, the pink double decker “London style” tour bus is a great way to take in the sights of Saint John. There's an historic city loop including older Loyalist era sites and the New Brunswick Museum, the Fallsview Park loop which includes the Reversing Falls, and the City Market and King Street route for shopping and dining.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $42.

Booking Advice: These tours are generally easy with regard to physical exertion. Third party vendors advertise city tours at competitive prices. However, with all the choices the pink bus tours offer, these are (in our opinion) a nice deal.

Third Party Shore Excursions in Saint John

Below are links to third-party shore excursion vendors in Saint John (New Brunswick). These links will launch in a new browser window and are external sites. We bear no responsibility for the content or services offered at these sites.
3rd party shore excursions often have advantages over shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Third party shore excursions can be less costly and feature smaller groups than shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Often, the vendors you buy from directly are the same vendors used by the cruise lines themselves.

The benefit of buying shore excursions from the cruise line is that the vendors and pre-screened for safety and reliablity. While cruise lines shore excursions can be more expensive than buying direct from a local vendor, there is certainly peace of mind that the cruise line will be using a reliable, safe and trusted vendor. If you experience a problem with the vendor on a cruise line-sold shore excursion, the shore excursion managers onboard the cruise ship will likely be an invaluable resource to help settle disputes.
