Malaga Shore Excursion Guide

Cruise lines offer a number of shore excursions for sale when visiting Malaga. For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Malaga. You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Malaga to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

Alhambra and Generalife Tour

Some places in the world deserve all the hoopla you hear about them, and Alhambra happens to be one. Your coach tour will take you through scenic countryside where you'll pass Santa Fe and Loja en route to Grenada. Following your lunch, you then take the drive to your walking tour which begins at the Alhambra. Forbidding on the outside, this incredible palace (circa 1300's) is a stunning example of Moorish architecture, with alabaster gates and intricately carved stone archways that could be studied for hours. You'll see highlights here that include Nazari Palace and Lions Gate. There will also be time allotted for shopping at the gift shop. Then, you'll visit Generalife, which was the summer residence of rulers, and which was converted by Charles V into a Renaissance fortress. Here, too, you'll see some enchanting areas that include Moorish gardens.
 
Price: Adults expect to pay $145 to $160 for a 9 hour tour that includes a buffet lunch.
 
Booking Advice: This tour is rated as physically strenuos because of the walking involved. Cruise line prices appear to be competitive.

Caves of Nerja

Considered to be the most beautiful cave system in Europe, the Nerja caves were discovered in the mid 1950's. Highlights of the Nerja caves include Paleolithic cave drawings, all the stalagmites and stalactites, the Cataclysm Chamber, the Hall of Nativity, the Hall of Tusk, and the Hall of Cascade. En route back, you'll also see a Roman aquaduct.
 
Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for a 4.5 hour tour.
 
Booking Advice: These tours are physically strenous due to the amount of walking, and walking on uneven surfaces. Cruise line prices appear to be competitive with 3rd party vendors.

Tour of Bullring, Marbella, and Puerto Banus

You will first visit the famous bullring and the museum before taking off from Malaga to Marbella. On a walking tour of the Old Town, among highlights you'll see Moorish architecture, the Plaza de Naranjos, Town Hall (1400's), the Encarnacion Church, and the walls of an Arabic castle. The tour then progresses to the Puerto Banus marina area, where you'll also have that opportunity to stroll about and shop at various boutiques.
 
Price: Adults expect to pay around $40 for a 7 hour tour.
 
Booking Advice: These tours are rated as moderately physically taxing. Cruise line prices appear to be quite competitive.

Tour of Malaga Cathedral, Alcazaba, & Wine Cellar

En route to your first destination, you'll have opportunity to see the bullring. You'll then visit El Castillo de Gibrafaro (Moorish fortress) before seeing the Plaza del Merced, which is where the birthplace of Picasso is located. Then, you'll visit Alcabaza, the “red fort,” which is the oldest portion of the Alhambra. At tour's end, sample Malaga Virgen wine at a local wine cellar.
 
Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for this 4.5 hour tour.
 
Booking Advice: This tour is considered to be physically arduous. Cruise line prices do appear to be quite competitive.

Malaga City Tour

This tour combines walking and a coach drive to provide you an overview of Malaga city highlights, which include viewing Mudejar and Gothic architecture, the city's parks and gardens, the bullring, the birthplace of Picasso, and Malaga's Cathedral.
 
Price: Adults expect to pay around $45 for a 4 hour tour.
 
Booking Advice: Due to the walking involved, this tour is rated as moderate in terms of physical exercise. Cruise line prices appear to be competitive.
