Third Party Shore Excursions in Lahaina

Haleaka Crater and the Maui Ocean Center

This tour takes you by coach to the Haleaka Crater Rim, with opportunity to shop for black coral en route. The Haleaka Crater is 3 miles wide and over 7 miles long, and you'll see it from the crater rim. Then you visit the Maui Ocean Center. There are over 60 exhibits, and you'll see a Living Reef, the Touch Pool, the Marine Mammal Discovery Center, and the 54 foot transparent tube, the Living Journey, that you walk through and see sharks, tropical fish, and sea turtles. After your visit, you'll have a Hawaiian lunch and opportunity to look at the gift shop.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $180 for this 8.5 hour tour that includes lunch.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as easy physically. When you factor in transportation, the cruise line price is fairly competitive. However, if you want to look at a variety of Haleaka tours, we also suggest http://www.allmauitours.com/island-tours/haleakala-tours/sbc-2875

Maui Snorkling

Snorkle off the boat at the Molokini Crater, where you'll see tropical fish and coral, and by the Turtle Reef of Olowalu, where you will likely see the Green Sea Turtles. Then, lunch is served.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $100 through the cruise lines for this 5.5 hour adventure that includes lunch.

Booking Advice: This excursion is rated as physically arduous. Cruise line prices are competitive, but for more variety, you may want to check out http://www.allmauitours.com/cruises-water-tours/day-cruises-snorkel-tours/sbc-3952

Maui Ocean Center

A coach takes you to the Maui Ocean Center for an On Your Own Tour. There are over 60 exhibits, and you'll see a Living Reef, the Touch Pool, the Marine Mammal Discovery Center, and the 54 foot transparent tube, the Living Journey, that you walk through and see sharks, tropical fish, and sea turtles. There's also a gift shop for those souvenirs.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $80 through the cruise lines for 3 hours.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as easy physically. If you're planning on taking a cab, the cruise line tour is VERY competitive. However, for all of those intrepid on your own explorers, admission to the ocean center actually costs around $25, and buses are cheap. You may want to look at http://www.allmauitours.com/body.asp?tour=OGG-PRK01&page=TourDetails&pref=204&aid=ltb1430 and http://www.co.maui.hi.us/index.aspx?NID=1310

Whale Watching

Essentially, from December to May, Humpback whales migrate to the ocean waters by Maui to mate and calve. A naturalist is one of the crew members on your boat, and as soon as whales are spotted, you are safely maneuvered to a good viewing location that will not disturb these incredible mammals!

Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for a two hour adventure through the cruise lines.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as easy with respect to physical exercise. While cruise line prices are fairly competitive, and 3rd party vendors online do not include your transportation to and from your ship, you may want to check out the great variety of whale watching tours at http://www.allmauitours.com/cruises-water-tours/maui-whale-watching/sbc-2753

Walking Tour

A guide takes you to various Lahaina highlights in a manner that is observant of Native Hawaiiancustoms. You'll see King Kamehameha's Palace, visit the Baldwin Home, see Luakini Street, see the Waiola Cemetery, and the sacred site (and archaeological find), Moku'ula. There will be time to walk about and shop.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for this 2 hour tour.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as moderately physically taxing due to the walking involved. The most competition we see in terms of price is the simple fact that you can get a map and tour Lahaina on your own with friends. One such map can be located at http://www.bestofmauiguide.com/lahainahistory.html
