Callao Shore Excursion Guide

Cruise lines offer a number of shore excursions for sale when visiting Callao. For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Callao. City Drive, Cathedral, Gold Museum, and Shopping

This 8 hour tour brings you to some of Lima's most popular and famous sites. First, visit the 17th century baroque Renaissance cathedral, which was rebuilt following a distrous earthquake in the mid 20th century. You'll see ornate gold leaf work, beautifully carved wood, and paintings and sculptures centuries old. When you visit the Gold Museum, you'll see an array of Incan artifacts and jewelry, as well as Japanese armor Pizarro was thought to have used. Lunch is a creole buffet. Highlights you'll see along the way include Plaza de Armas (photo op), Miraflores, Plaza de Mayo, Plaza San Martin, and Parque del Armor (photo op).
 
Price: Adults expect to pay around $130 for an 8 hour tour that usually included.
 
Booking Advice: This excursion is rated as moderate in terms of physical exertion. Cruise line prices appear to be quite competitive with online 3rd party vendors. If you just want to sight see and shop, or just visit the Gold Museum, you can reduce the cost by at least half. However, these 4 hour tours don't include lunch.

Pachamac Ruins & Peruvian Dancing Horses

This is tour first stops at the National Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, which displays an expanse of pre-Columbian pottery, jewelry. Mummies, and tapestries. You then tour the Pachamac Ruins from 700 AD, where you'll see the remnants of the Temple of the Sun God, ancient adobe housing, and the irrigation system. Following this, you'll travel onward to a hacienda famous for its stable of Peruvian Dancing Horses!

Cathedral, Casa Garcia Alvarado, and San Francisco Monastery

Larco Herrera Museum and Indian Market

When you visit the Larco Herrara Museum, you'll be seeing the largest and most complete collection of pre-Columbian treasures housed in a (former) early 18th century hacienda. Among the displays are silver and gold jewelry, ceramics, mummies, and erotic art.
