Barcelona Shore Excursion Guide

Cruise lines offer a number of shore excursions for sale when visiting Barcelona. For your convenience, we have provided a sample listing below of the shore excursions typically sold by cruise lines that visit Barcelona. You may wish to check out 3rd party shore excursions in Barcelona to get a wider variety of options to choose from.

La Sagrada Familia and City Tour

Your coach tour takes you by a view of the Olympic Ring, and you pass through the city's Moorish Arc de Triomf. You'll then have 45 minutes to visit the La Sagrada Familia Church. Construction was begun in 1882 by Antoni Gaudi, a very famous modernist architect. Construction is scheduled to be complete within the next 20 years. (Gaudi died tragically in 1926.) Your bus tour then progresses to La Pedrera and Casa Batllo (House of Bones), both designed by Gaudi/ You'll see the Columbus Monument in Placa Catalunya, and a photo stop is planned at Montjuic Mountain en route back to your ship.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for this 4 hour tour.

Booking Advice: These tours are rated as easy physically. We do suggest looking at Hop On/Off Bus Tours which tour the city for a rather nice price (around $30).

The Picasso Museum and Gaudi's La Pedrera

You coach brings you to the Gothic Quarter, where you'll see boulevard shops and Art Nouveau buildings along the way. The Picasso Museum is housed in the La Ribera area where there are several Medieval buildings. Pablo Picasso's affinity for Barcelona is rather evident in the museum which houses 3,500 of his works (many of which were privately donated by the master himself). You then visit La Pedrera, which was designed by modernist architect, Antoni Gaudi, and which includes Art Nouveau balconies and elevators so -as Gaudi hoped- people could becomre acquainted with neighbors.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $70 for this4 hour tour.

Booking Advice: These tours are rated as moderate in terms of physical exertion because of the walking involved. We suggest checking third party vendor Hop On/Off Tours for price comparisons, but such tours won't include admission prices as needed.

Gothic Barcelona

Your guided tour in part takes place in Barcelona's Barri Gothic, where you'll see buildings that date to the Medieval era and to Roman times. You'll visit the Cathedral of Santa Eulalie (circa 1400's), and also see the Casa del' Ardacia, and King's Square, where the former palace of kings was located. You then visit La Rambla, which is a mile long pedestrian walk way lined with trees, markets, and shops. A photo stop is planned at Mirador, where you'll experience panoramic views of the city.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $50 for this 4 hour tour.

Booking Advice: Because of the walking involved, these tours are rated as moderate in terms of physical exertion. Cruise line prices appear to be competitive, but we do suggest looking over bus tours offered by online 3rd party vendors.

City Coach Tours

This is an easy Barcelona tour, where you drive by city highlights including the Columbus Monument, the Arc de Triomf, Gaudi's unfinished La Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Quarter, tour along the boulevard Paseo de Gracia, then see Placa Catalunya, the mid 15th century university building, Plaza d' Espanya, and finally see the panoramic views from Montjuic.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $30 for a 2.5 hour tour.

Booking Advice: This tour is rated as easy physically. Cruise line prices appear to be quite competitive.

Audio Guided Walking Tours of Barcelona

Audio guided tours of Barcelona can guide you to up to 30 city highlights including such places as the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla.

Price: Adults expect to pay around $34.

Booking Advice: These tours could be physically strenous. We do suggest doing price comparison's with 3rd party vendor Hop On/Off tours.

Third Party Shore Excursions in Barcelona

Below are links to third-party shore excursion vendors in Barcelona, Spain. These links will launch in a new browser window and are external sites. We bear no responsibility for the content or services offered at these sites.
3rd party shore excursions often have advantages over shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Third party shore excursions can be less costly and feature smaller groups than shore excursions sold by the cruise lines. Often, the vendors you buy from directly are the same vendors used by the cruise lines themselves.

The benefit of buying shore excursions from the cruise line is that the vendors and pre-screened for safety and reliablity. While cruise lines shore excursions can be more expensive than buying direct from a local vendor, there is certainly peace of mind that the cruise line will be using a reliable, safe and trusted vendor. If you experience a problem with the vendor on a cruise line-sold shore excursion, the shore excursion managers onboard the cruise ship will likely be an invaluable resource to help settle disputes.
