Seward Self-Guided Tour

Here are some popular sights and attractions you may want to check out if you choose not to do a shore excursion and explore Seward on your own:

  • Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords National Park is an incredibly scenic series of islands, rock outcroppings, and fjords that can be visited by small boats. Along with the spectacular fjords and glaciers, there's an excellent chance of seeing puffins, bald eagles, sea otters, mountain goats, seals, whales, and the occasional bear! Plus, if you spot orcas, the captain may lower a mike below the surface so you can listen to their amazing calls.
  • Alaska Sea Life Center
Alaska Sea Life Center is a state-of-the-art aquarium and marine life rehabilitation center that gives visitors a view of the local sea life from above and below water level. Visit the puffin habitat and see the birds "fly" underwater. Meet Woody, an gigantic male Steller sea lion. For a few extra bucks, you can go on a behind-the-scenes tour and watch an orphaned sea otter pup being groomed by its human "mom." The Alaska Sea Life Center opened in 1998 and was partially funded by the Exxon Valdez oil spill settlement.
  • Exit Glacier
Exit Glacier can be reached by following the footpaths for an up-close encounter. Weather and safety concerns will determine just how close you are allowed to get and parts of the path may be roped off. The glacier is noticeably receding, which makes the hike to the ice longer each year. Currently, it's just under a mile away, partly up hill.
