Here are some popular sights and attractions you may want to check out if you choose not to do a shore excursion and explore San Diego on your own:

  • The San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is world-famous and features 4,000 animals of 800 species. One of its most popular attractions is its bioclimatic exhibits, which include the Polar Rim, Panda Canyon and Urban Jungle. There's also a three-mile guided tour, children's petting zoo, and a baby animal nursery.
  • Beaches:
Check out Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. Both have boardwalks where you'll find lots of activity. Inline skates, surfboards and bicycles are available for rent. Belmont Park, which is located a mile south of Pacific Beach, boasts the Giant Dipper, a wooden roller coaster built in the 1920s and still in operation.
  • Sea World San Diego
Sea World San Diego features half a dozen major shows involving marine life such as, Penguin Encounter, Shark Encounter, Wild Arctic, and even Cirque de la Mer, a whimsical circus-style performance, in the summer. • Balboa Park
Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre park in the center of San Diego which is home to 15 museums. The San Diego Museum of Art and San Diego Natural History Museum are stand-outs.
