Fairbanks Self-Guided Tour

Here are some popular sights and attractions you may want to check out if you choose not to do a shore excursion and explore Fairbanks on your own:

  • El Dorado Gold Mine
The El Dorado Gold Mine takes you on a trip through Alaska's gold mining history. You can ride the Tanana Valley Railroad for an adventure into the gold fields of the Interior. Also, a two-hour guided tour takes you through a permafrost tunnel where Alaska's history comes alive. Enjoy a walking tour of our mining camp and talk with Alaska miners as you learn about present day placer mining methods. After a short course in gold mining you can grab your own "poke" filled with pay dirt right out of a sluice box and try your hand at panning for gold. Everyone comes away having found a piece of gold.
  • Alaskaland Pioneer Park
Alaskaland Pioneer Park, another popular attraction, is Alaska's only frontier theme park. Visitors can step back in time throughout this 44-acre park.
  • Alaska Salmon Bake in Pioneer Park
At the Alaska Salmon Bake, enjoy All-You-Care-To-Eat Golden Deep Fired Halibut, Prime Rib, fire cooked King Salmon & Bering Sea Cod. A full salad bar, baked beans, rolls, dessert, coffee, tea, and lemonade are included with your meal. After dinner, stroll through Alaska's historical Pioneer Park while exploring Fairbanks' history.
  • World Eskimo-Indian Olympics
The World Eskimo-lndian Olympics, held each July, lets spectators view traditional events such as the high kick, greased pole walk, stick pull, fish cutting, ear pulling contest, and traditional Native dancing.
