Wellington Restaurant Guide

Wellington, the culinary capital of New Zealand is known for out of the way bars electic cafes, curly fries and really great coffee. There are lots of little places to kick back and take in the view.

The White House is a fine dining Wellington icon is a venue that consistently receives top marks across the board. Flavors are mixed to perfection - preparation and presentation are flawless. Executive Chef and Owner, Paul Hoather, creates exceptional dishes such as: crab raviolo, paw paw and coriander salsa, Thai-inspired coconut sauce; slow-cooked pork belly, ginger and lychee jelly, spicy cashew butter; Angus pure beef fillet, fried scampi, Worcestershire spatzli, young carrots, carrot puree, oxtail juice; and char-grilled white veal loin, Parkvale mushroom risotto, veal jus. There are excellent options for vegetarians and the fish is always prepared perfectly. Prices: Set menu - 2 courses for $35 or 3 courses for $50. Major credit cards are accepted. Hours: Lunch: Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 2pm, Dinner: all week 5:30pm to late. Reservations are essential and required for a party of 7 or more – along with a $100 deposit. Shed 5 was indeed a shed - an old woolshed, to be exact. Now, it's one of Wellington's premier seafood restaurants - catering to guests with discerning palates and high expectations. Shed 5's popularity and award-winning status are such that, on any given night, there is a sizable crowd. With its location right on the edge of the wharf, the fish are brought straight from the docks (whole) and filleted at the restaurant. Aside from the fish, the menu also includes other delicacies from the sea such as prawns and oysters, as well as lamb, beef, venison, and chicken. Prices are: Main courses NZ$27-NZ$42($23-36USD). Major credit cards are accepted. Hours: 11am til late daily. Reservations are recommended. Shed 5 is located on Queen's Wharf. If Logan Brown Restaurant were to be described in bullet points, here's something of what it would look like: - superb dishes created with New Zealand's fresh ingredients that get your taste-buds dancing - servers who are swift, cordial and knowledgable, yet never pretenious or pestering - a top-notch wine list - an atmosphere that is elegant without being stuffy - a fabulous menu which caters to all tastes - and a dining experience to be remembered for a lifetime. Head Chef (and partner), Shaun Clouston, along with an incredibly talented team, create culinary marvels such as: Paua Ravioli with Coriander, Basil & Lime Beurre Blanc; Martinborough Sauvignon Vine-Smoked Salmon with Horseradish Panna Cotta & Caper Salsa; Crispy Skin Duck Confit with Wild Boar Sausage, Apple Stuffing & Cranberry Relish; Lime & Ginger Brulee with Sour Lemonade Sorbet & Pumpkin Pie Wafers (which one diner proclaimed was like "Heaven on a plate"). Prices are Main courses A La Carte Entrées/Mains – from NZ$29.50 to NZ59.00($25USD-$50USD). Every Saturday night a Degustation Menu is offered at 8pm. It celebrates Logan Brown's finest and most popular dishes. There are two menu options to choose from: Six Course Degustation Menu @ $110 pp and a Nine Course Degustation Menu @ $150pp. Major credit cards are accepted. Hours are: Lunch: Mon – Fri from 12 noon, Dinner: Mon – Sun from 5.30pm. Reservations are recommended.
