St. Maarten Restaurant Guide

No matter where you happen to be on this island, you'll be still standing on "foodie hallowed ground!" St. Martin/St. Maarten is generally regarded as "the culinary capital of the Caribbean." Of course, that also means the grocery stores are stocked, so if you just want a little romantic picnic for two, you can always go to Le Grand Marche for great cheeses, some olive oil, wonderful bread, and then locate a nice French wine! Dining out is less muss and fuss, and your options here range from local favorites like barbecue chicken and johnny cakes to 5 star cuisine. One thing is certain: cuisine on this island can be one of the most positive, "post card moments" on your cruise!

L' Escargot, at 96 Front St., Philipsburg, is considered pricey by some, but when you're on an island where even junk food can run up to 18 USD, paying 22 USD for fresh fish may not be so out of line! -And at L' Escargot, we are talking about a restaurant that offers a selection of their namesake, and Hor d' Oeuvres including their dich pate, stuffed manicotti, bay scallops, and crepes. The menu includes a selection of soups, salads, Langoustes, and Poissons (snapper, calamari steak, and mahi mahi included), as well as steaks, lamb entrees, veal, dick, chicken, and house announced specials. L' Escargot has been in business for around 40 years on this "foodie" island, so it's fair to assume they know what they are doing. The food is wonderful! Add their charming location , and you have one of those places worth writing home about! This restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. You can contact them at 590-542-2483, and you may want to visit http://www.lescargotrestaurant.com/home.html.

Antoine Restaurant, oceanside at 119 Front St., is a lovely find for a menu of predominantly French dishes, although Italian aficionados do have a pasta selection as well. The menus, which ranges from 8 to $20 for lunch, and from $20 to $46 for dinner, offers a nice variety. Escargot, shrimp scampi, grilled lobster, tuna steak, Lobster Thermidor, Red Snapper, rack of lamb, and stuffed shrimp are among entrees, with lobster dinners representing the highest prices. This restaurant comes highly recommended! Antoine Restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and you can call them at 011-599-542-2964 or visit http://www.antoinerestaurant.com/.

Lolos at Grand Case are small venues, often operated by gourmet chefs enjoying a more relaxed pace, where you'll find a variety of entrees, especially grilled fish, often for less than 10 Euro. If you're just looking for a simple but wonderful lunch, these little shops come highly recommended!

Martin/St. Maarten. The official currency is the U.S. dollar. All major credit cards and travelers checks are accepted in most locations.
