St. John Restaurant Guide

Cuisine in the United States Virgin Islands is influenced by a variety of cultures, especially the indigenous people, African, and European cultures. Of course, fresh seafood plays a big role! Mango, lime, sweet potato pie, root veggies, onions, fish stews, chicken, and callaloo -a soup of the daheen plant and okra flavored with pork- are also important. Spices including curry flavor the cooking here!

St. John Waterfront Bistro, a newer restaurant located at Wharfside Village, Cruz Bay, is open daily for lunch (11:00 AM to 2:30 PM) and dinner (5:30 PM to 11:00 PM). For lunch, starters include chilled cucumber and avocado soup which comes highly recommended, as do the fish tacos! Starters at lunch range in price from 7 to 13 USD. There's a nice selection of salads from 8 to 18 USD, and sandwiches including Yellowfin Tuna, Grilled Portobello, classics like the BLT, and wraps (from 10 to 13 USD. For dinner, the starters expand to include Confit Duck Leg, Sea Scallops, Lump Crab Salad and other delectables, which range from 9 to 22 USD. Main courses, such as the Lamb Trio, Sauteed Mahi Mahi & Sea Scallops, Lobster, and Filet Mignon, range is cost from 28 to 41 USD. This restaurant does suggest reservations, and you can contact them at 340-777-7755, or visit http://www.thewaterfrontbistro.com/Home%20.html.

Zozo's Ristorante, at Gallow's Point Resort, is one of THE most recommended places to eat when visiting St. John. This establishment is only open for dinner (doors open at 5:00 PM, and dinner service begins at 5:30 PM), but IF you're still on the island, this place is definitely worth a reservation, which you can make by calling 340-693-9200. The "Primo" dishes and salads cost around 14 USD, and include Fresh Pappardelle, Lobster Ravioli, Calamari with Pesto Aioli and Marinara, Gnocchi, Little Neck Clams, and Prosciutto Di Parma. The Pesce E Carne selections, while not vast, are a fine collection indeed. Chops, Lobster Fradiavolo, Osso Buco, and Beef Tenderloin, among other choices, range in price from 36 to 40 USD. -And while you experience a bit of culinary heaven, you'll have an enchanting -downright romantic- waterfront sunset view! You may want to visit them at http://www.zozos.net/.

The Tourist Trap is actually by Route 107, a half minute from Salt Pond. It's situated, according to the owners, on "the pasture," which is a famous old party area on the island. What this wonderful couple has done, in their own words and with their own character, is put together a people friendly, open air seating, roadside stand where you can enjoy "gourmet peasant food." Fish tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, and grouper sandwiches are on their simple but fine menu. They make their own marinara and meatballs, which is of vital importance to those of us who really love this sandwich! The lobster rolls are also made on the premises, and get rave reviews. The taste and quality of this comfort cooking is excellent, and you're enjoying all this and a great view while you dine! The unpretentious, mismatched outdoor furniture only adds to the experience. Prices typically range from 3 to 12 USD. The Tourist Trap is closed Sundays and Mondays, but is otherwise open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can call them at 340-744-0912, or visit http://thetouristtrap.co/TheTouristTrap.co/Welcome.html.

John. The official currency is the U.S. dollar. All major credit cards and travelers checks are accepted in most locations.
