Saint John Restaurant Guide

When you visit Saint John, expect to savor great seafood, including fish and chips, mussels, and chowder. You'll find numerous restaurants in this town, many of which take a lot of pride in using locally grown produce. With a cultural history heavily influenced by the French and British, and which later included the Irish, you'll find a variety of fare reflecting the tastes of these people! There are also a variety of international venues, including Italian and Thai, to suit the tastes of visitors and locals alike!

Popular Restaurants in Saint John (New Brunswick):

Steamer's Lobster Company, located at 110 Water Street, is literally just a hop, skip, and a jump from cruise ships. Open from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM during cruise season, and 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM otherwise, this restaurant receives good reviews for the basics you'd expect from a seafood place. Appetizers including calamari and cheese perogies range from 9 to C$12. There are choices for the non-seafood eaters also ranging in price from 9 to C$13. Seafood main courses include fish and chips, snow crab, and seafood platters that range from 18 to C$38. Their Shore Dinners, which include lobster, are at current market price. You can call Steamer's at 506-648-2325, and you may also want to refer to http://www.steamerslobstercompany.com/index.php.

Saint John Ale House does most the largest selection of beer to be found in Saint John, and also has a nice variety of fare for late breakfast, lunch, and supper. Appetizers including chowder and mussels range from 9 to C$12. Main courses, such as seafood pasta, fish and chips, scallops, steaks, and fish pie range in price from 17.50 to C$39. Located at 1 Market Street, Saint John Ale House can be found fairly quickly. You can call them at 506-657-2337, or visit http://www.saintjohnalehouse.com/food.

Steamer's Lobster Company couldn't be more convenient. It's on Water Street, across from the ship terminal. You'll get an authentic seaboard spread, served outdoors on picnic-style tables with umbrellas. Lobster is the house specialty, but don't miss the bucket o' mussels, served with a platter of lemon wedges and drawn butter. There's even a "lounge singer" that serenades customers during their meal.

Saint John City Market, which faces King's Square in the town's center, is a wonderful place to stroll and shop, and you'll find some food vendors there, too, with counter service and some table seating. Fish and chips, crepes, chowders, and sausages exemplify some of your selections at the market! For more information about the market, you may want to check out http://www.sjcitymarket.ca/.

The official currency is the Canadian dollar. Currency exchange stations are available at most local hotels and airports, though many tourist destinations accept major credit cards. Most retailers will accept US currency.
