Port Stanley Restaurant Guide

Kelpers, as the islanders refer to themselves in deference to the kelp seaweed on their shores, enjoy cuisine you would likely find in the United Kingdom. Pub lunches such as fish and chips, meat pies, beef, lamb, roasted goose, and a variety of seafood including mussels, scallops, Rock Cod, sea trout, crab, and oysters are quite popular! Patagonian toothfish and locally caught squid are considered "not to be missed!' Kelpers enjoy mid morning tea -called "smoko"- which includes home cooked biscuits and cakes. In the Falklands, you'll have wonderful opportunities to savor fare from basic to gourmet with the freshest of ingredients from both sea and farms!

Popular Restaurants of the Falkland Islands:

The Malvina House Hotel includes a well regarded restaurant for lunch and supper. Lunch fare includes the ever famous Uplands Goose Pate, Shepherd's Pie, burgers, steak, barbecue chicken breast, and fried squid. The dinner menu includes rack of lamb, fish cakes, fisherman's pie, and a few steak choices. Your lunch menu prices including appetizers ranges from 7.50 to 14 USD, and the upper end of prices for supper is around 31 USD. The Malvina House Hotel is located at 3 Ross Road, Stanley, and their phone number is 500 21355/21360. Their website is http://www.malvinahousehotel.com/.

The Globe Tavern, located on Philomel Street across from the jetty, offers classic British pub food with a peat fire on chilly days added to the ambiance. In addition to draught beers, an assortment of wines, and other spirits, here you can get some great old "stand-bys"- fish and chips, bangers and mash, and burgers! This pub garners some nice reviews for food quality, and is nearby the cruise terminal.

The Falklands Brasserie, considered by many to be THE best restaurant in town, is open for lunch and supper. It's location at 3 Philomel Street just up from the jetty also makes this establishment easy to reach! Known for serving local cuisine with the freshest of ingredients, the Falklands Brasserie gets great reviews for entrees of toothfish, lamb, and squid. Roast beef and yorkshire pudding are also favorites. Prices range up to about 31 USD at supper, and during tourist season, this establishment has been known to have an abbreviated menu to expedite service. This is one "not to be missed" restaurant in Stanley!
