The town of Taormina, founded by the Greeks in 8th century BC and later “remodeled” by the Romans, has a bit of Medieval appeal as well. City tours will take you by the Piazetta del Duomo, and you will ultimately see the Teatro Greco, which is also as old as the town. (Due to its fine acoustics, the theater did not get much of a Roman facelift.) Views of Etna, and the opportunity to tour the town of Catania, will likely be the source of memories to come. Now Catania stands proud with her buildings of black lava, rebuilt as she was in the 18th century following devastating lava flow and earthquakes. -And now, the soil of Mt. Etna, permeated with lava, is responsible for unique vintages of red and white wines... This active volcano takes, but also seems to give.
